My previous vampire cowboy pieces were all set in the snow and I wanted to try to try a different color pallet with this. I ended up playing around with the stylization / anatomy of the figures and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I love this witches elongated arms and legs, I can see myself embracing this stylization for other characters or items in this world.
This piece came out of a disciplined night of drawing, I had told myself my Tuesday night would be blocked off for drawing but when the day rolled around I was super tired and was not stoked to sit down at my desk. But I’m super glad that I did, my energy kind of ramped up the longer I fiddled away.
I remember thinking that my goal for this piece was “who would I not want to find out on the frontier”. I can imagine being a lone rancher out on an old dirt road and coming across this horrifying rider only to be dismissed by all of your friends at the local saloon. But you know what you saw out there.
