I’ve been a turtles fan since I was a kid, the first graphic novel I ever fell in love with was a TMNT x Usagi Yojimbo crossover and I was completely obsessed. There has been so many different iterations of the turtles over the years and was trying to imagine, if I was given the opportunity to write and illustrate a TMNT story, what would it be.
TMNT: CORE KID - a story that revolves around Raph playing in his local hardcore scene. The details are still bury for me, but I love imagining Raph up on stage with his hoodie up, playing guitar incognito. It just fits so well with his personality and its subculture that I love so much, it’s really fun to mash those two things together.
I could see the other brothers being apart of the band as well but there’s something about the idea of this being a more personal story revolving around Raph. Why is he in a band, what is his relationship like to his brothers, where do villains like Shredder, Krang, Stockman etc fit into this whole thing? I guess I’ll leave all these questions for future me to explore.
Had a ton of fun with this, I can REALLY see myself exploring this as an actual pitch down the road.
